We were in search of Langdi (one with a limp), a Tigress, for about 4 days, as she had recently given birth to cubs 3-4 months ago, but we did not get a sniff of her at all. On the fifth day, in the morning, we made a dash to a remote area of the park, filled with rocky outcrops, in close proximity to the Pench River, which is on the left of the game drive. Nearing the area, we saw fresh pugmarks on the road. Excited, we followed them for nearly 300m, and the tracks deviated into the grassland at the edge of the river. We thought we had lost her, and after scanning the landscape for a few minutes, I turned to my right looking into the rocky outcrop, typical of Pench, and lo behold! She was right in front of me, at a distance of 30m, staring into my eyes, piercing my soul.We then had her for the next 3 hours feeding on a Nilgai carcass, but that’s for another time.
